OK, but then how it can be considered OK, or even
acceptable?
We might accept this limitation and not start
chatting with more than one person concomitently, but other people might start
chatting us.
What can we do in that case? Can we distinguish
somehow the source of chat messages? Can we decide to whom we want to type to if
this thing happends?
The very bad policy of forcing us to use another
worse application doesn't make me have the courage of trying Skype 8, see if I
like it, and if not, return to Skype 7 at least for the next one month and a
half, because I'm afraid that this might be impossible and I might need to start
using the worse solution right now.

It works and works well. You only chat with one person at once anyway, and you do’t want too many resources to be taken up, so take it, or uninstall skype and never use it.
I use skype 8 every day for my jobs and don’t mind that it is only 1 chat, it always has ben one chat and always will be one chat.

Sarah,
I kindly remember you that your needs and
preferences are not the need or preferences of all computer users.
If you are happy with the limited features offered
by the new version of Skype is OK, but it might not be OK for other
users.
If you consider Mac as beeing the best OS, then
this means that it is the best OS for you, not for everybody. Other people may
be forced to use another operating system because there are some applications
they need to use which don't exist for Mac, or are not accessible
etc.

Actually I’m also using the windows versio of skype, the updated one that came wiht my machien and navigating it with out the scrits is way way easy. It acts just like skype on the mac where you no longer have the chats in separate windows. I’v eactually alwasy wanted that to be gone as I cannot multi task. Go to anchor.fm/ke7zum and check out my demo on the new skype for windows 10 I might even put it up on my mix cloud as well. I got the hang of it after maybe about 5 minutes. It is not that bad really. And I’m using no addons for nvda as far as I know to access the new features. The keyboard shortcuts even work fine.

It's great if the hotkeys are working fine, but I
still can't understand why you consider it better. If the previous version of
Skype offers the possibility of multiple chat windows but you can't use them for
whatever reasons, nobody forces you to use multiple chat windows, so from your
perspective it shouldn't matter.
On the other hand, if other users want to use
multiple chat windows, this is possible in Skype Classic, but not possible in
Skype 8 from what I understood, so the new version has a big disadvantage for
them.

Clarification: All Skype versions allow multiple simultaneous chats, but only Skype Classic allows chats to appear in separate windows. In Skype classic's default view and in all other Skype clients for Windows, you switch among chats by choosing different conversations in the conversation list. I was doing that in Skype Classic for years already and have not used separate windows in a very long time, so admittedly I'm quite used to this.

It works and works well. You only chat with one person at once anyway, and you do't want too many resources to be taken up, so take it, or uninstall skype and never use it.
I use skype 8 every day for my jobs and don't mind that it is only 1 chat, it always has ben one chat and always will be one chat.

Short answer: Alt+1 for conversation list, and Tab and Shift+Tab for chat input and history, for now. In JAWS, [ e and [ h jump to history and edit box, respectively, if you use my scripts.
Longer answer for NVDA users:
I initially planned to include keystrokes for jumping to edit box and history in my Skype 8 add-on, but I did not get around in time to learning a good way to set up layered keys, like [ e; and I did not want to risk colliding with commands in Skype 8 itself. My natural keystroke for jumping to the edit box would probably have been Ctrl+E. It's a good thing I didn't do that; Ctrl+E is now the native Skype 8 command for hanging up a call.
So there's no shortcuts for NVDA users yet for jumping around in a chat window; but perhaps Microsoft will implement these even before I can. I observe, in defense of this idea, that Microsoft Teams does include at least a keyboard shortcut for jumping to the input box.

OK, if the conversation list is easy to access, it can be acceptable, although it is harder to not see the name of the person in the title of the window.
Can you please tell me how you access the conversation list?
I made a test and configured Skype Classic to use a single window, and then I start tabbing around in that window, with the hope that I will find a way of changing the current chat. But I found only the following objects: - input text field - send image button - send file button - send video message button - send contacts button - insert emoticon or emogi button - select to change status drop down button - [my user name] button - search text field - see updates from your contacts in Skype home button - call mobiles and landlines from the dial pad - create a new conversation that anyone can join - contacts tab (the other tabs are:recent, all) - show unread conversations button - recent messages (here appear: today, the list of recent chats, yesterday...) - advertising frame - [remote user] (I don't know what is this for) - Add [remote user] to favourites button - video call button - call button - add people button - list of chat messages
I've seen that I can change the current remote user from "recent messages" above, after tabbing for 15 times, which is not really nice. Plus that I need to select the user with up and down arrows, and when doing this, the focus can also move to other things like "today", or "yesterday".
Is there an easier method of selecting the remote user when a single window is used? Or maybe in Skype 8 is easier than in Skype Classic?

OK, the edit field might be easy to find using web nav keys as you said. But how do you find the list of chats in order to be able to switch to another chat? This might be different on Skype 8 than in Skype Classic, and I hope that is easier, because in Skype Classic I need to press the tab key for 15 times.

After that I use my web nav keys such as f for edit field and stuff to find the edit field if I want to. On Jul 21, 2018, at 9:48 AM, Octavian Rasnita <orasnita@...> wrote:

Clarification: All Skype versions allow multiple simultaneous chats, but only Skype Classic allows chats to appear in separate windows. In Skype classic's default view and in all other Skype clients for Windows, you switch among chats by choosing different conversations in the conversation list. I was doing that in Skype Classic for years already and have not used separate windows in a very long time, so admittedly I'm quite used to this.

It works and works well. You only chat with one person at once anyway, and you do't want too many resources to be taken up, so take it, or uninstall skype and never use it.
I use skype 8 every day for my jobs and don't mind that it is only 1 chat, it always has ben one chat and always will be one chat.

OK, but then how it can be considered OK, or even acceptable? We might accept this limitation and not start chatting with more than one person concomitently, but other people might start chatting us. What can we do in that case? Can we distinguish somehow the source of chat messages? Can we decide to whom we want to type to if this thing happends?
The very bad policy of forcing us to use another worse application doesn't make me have the courage of trying Skype 8, see if I like it, and if not, return to Skype 7 at least for the next one month and a half, because I'm afraid that this might be impossible and I might need to start using the worse solution right now.
