new skype on mac

Sarah k Alawami

Well all I was forcibly updated to the new skype preview I hate it! I had a class today and had to very quickly learn the interface. I ended up being 5 minutes late to class, I could not hang up the call when the call window was not in focus. This new version went down hill. Now when you go to skype.com you get the "new skype" page. It really sucks. I'm using mac os high sierra by the way. I wish they would not have broken it. I know what they are going after, however I don't care for it. Oh and skype is unstable. Busy busy busy all the time.

I know this will not help but those are just my findigns so far.

Take care all

Hello Doug,
No need to apologize for being behind the Skype curve.
Any one of us who use your Skype scripts really do appreciate all the work it takes to create a product that works 99% of the time flawlessly.
Also we will let you in on a secret, we know you are only human! LOL

Please enjoy your holidays with your loved ones and as for all of us who are the beneficiaries of all your hard work and commitment to the blind community we do appreciate you very much and we will just wait patiently for you to work your Skype magic.

many thanks,

Skype for Windows Desktop classic: This is what I scripted and it should still work.

Skype for Windows Desktop new: I've only heard of this, never seen it because it normally won't run on Windows 10. Some say it's accessible,
some say it's not.

Skype UWP, also called Skype for Windows 10: This comes with Windows 10 and is in the Windows Store. I am scripting this one but have
been slowed by work, holiday activities, and difficulties with Skype UWP itself. Difficulties fall into these categories:
- Frequent updates that change how some things work.
- Sluggishness that can sometimes briefly freeze JAWS, possibly because of the size of my chat history.
- Difficulty performing a few tasks efficiently.

I'm still working on this one as I can though. As a self motivator, I am only using Skype UWP until I release scripts for it. I've been
doing this for weeks now.

Glad my intervention fixed it all!..
So in short, Chinese traditional was checked; Arabic though should be the first option you hear as soon as you focus the languages menu.

Re: Skype is going crazy on my computer! Am I the only one?

Thank you for the response Dug. I managed to solve the problem thanks to Michele. I presume the new app is very hard to script, since all modern apps I tried on Windows were somewhere between 0 and 10 % accessible. I can only wish you luck and patience, since I know nothing about how to write scripts, sadly I'm unable to contribute with more than just encouragements.

Thank you for doing this, in the name of all.

Best,

Vlad.

Re: Skype is going crazy on my computer! Am I the only one?

Michele,
You're a genius! It wasn't arabic, it was chinese traditional. I swear I never changed the language, I seriously wonder how it could possibly modify etself. It's creepy, but I'm glad things are back to normal.

Please accept my thanks, you saved my bacon, I don't know how I would have been able to work again.

Warm greetings from France, grazie mille!

Vlad.

This happens to me from time to time. Open task manager, end the program, then restart. That will clear it up.

I uninstalled and re-installed the scripts, no change. And when I try to re-install Skype, I get the following message:

Ok, since you still have version 7.40 I think I got what happened, and it's not the first time I hear it.
While in Skype press alt, then three times left arrow, one time down arrow and once right arrow. I'll bet you it tells you "arabic", if so go with down arrow till you hear English.
Bye!

While in Skype, do insert control v with JAWS and it will tell you the version number.
That may also work in NVDA but I'm less familiar with that program.

i think you updated to 8.11, which isn’t compatible with screen readers.
