I don't consider them reliable as long as anyone can set their status to invisible. And on the other hand, it is good that it is possible to set the status to invisible.

I use Skype 7, but in the list of contacts always appear either online, offline or away.

Or you ment that these don't appear only on Skype on mobiles?

Skype 7 sometimes says "Online" beside a contact name, as I said before; but not always, and I've never seen "Offline" or another status there yet.

Skype UWP uses the term "Active" to denote someone that is online, as far as I can tell.

So I think we will get presence indicators back, in some form. I just don't know exactly how they will work.

Exactly.
But, I've noticed something with Skype 7.
Sometimes, it shows a contact as online, or Away, when said contact is actually offline.
It seems the older versions were more reliable on that score.

I didn't know that. So did I understand correctly that if I am set to invisible and somebody will call me, that person will hear Skype ringing no matter if my computer is shut down, or the computer is on and Skype is logged in?

No, I can be invisible.  If you call me it will till ring. I can chose to answer if I want to.

Take care

Hi. Which is better, skype 8, run in compattability mode for windows 10 or the native windows 10 app and accessibility. And also did hear new conversations in my group and jaws announced the name of the conversation or contact, announced I had 2 updates, so that’s what I was talking about. Pity, not able to know if they are online or not.
Thanks.

Re: skype 8 and skype windows 10 which is the better for accessibility

Doug Lee

I think Skype 8 and Skype UWP both have pros and cons. I actually asked Microsoft's @SkypeSupport on Twitter yesterday (Tuesday) for information on the expect length of life of Skype 8, since it is currently intended only for
older versions of Windows. I await an answer.

I find Skype 8 more responsive than Skype UWP at this time, but I also find Skype UWP to have more features than Skype 8. This includes letting us know which contacts are active versus inactive, though not with the
notifications you requested earlier. (Skype 8.16 does include "Online" by some of my contacts in the Conversations list, but I don't yet know the exact significance of this since it is not shown for all contacts.)

Older versions of Skype UWP often froze on me for up to a minute. Older versions of Skype 8 outright crashed about as often as that. I have not seen either of these problems in updated versions.

For Doug Lee -- SFB Scripts

Kevin Mattingly

Doug,

Can you send me a copy of the scripts for SFB in a zip file minus the executable? My place of employment won’t allow me to download from your site and I can’t send myself an executable in e-mail or even transfer from a thumb drive. If you can send me the scripts, please send me instructions on how to manually install them as well.

My e-mail is kdmattingly@...

Thanks for the info Doug, the interesting thing is that my friend got Skype 8.16 autoinstalled! Meaning, Skype was autoupgraded.

Re: Skype 8.16 for Windows

Skype 8.16 is the Electron version. You can run it in Windows 8 compatibility mode on Windows 10.

Alt+2 brings up the Contacts list, and otherwise you can find the Conversations list by tabbing around the main screen a while; but I like using Ctrl+F, Search, to find a contact to call. I have a rather large contact list
though.

I have released JAWS scripts to help a bit with Skype 8 at http://www.dlee.org/skype/electron/

There’s a link to Skype Support, with a contact us link.
Going through the process and leaving a message gets you an auto-reply saying your message was received, and it’s an unmonitored account.
