Skype! What version is the right version and What is going on with all of these skypess
Hello!
I am using Windows10/64-bit version. On my desktop is the old Skype 7++++++; then there is a "Skype Web or something like that; and I hear you guys talking about skype up, etc; and I don't know that people are talking about and I don't know how to use skype now. When I open skype 7+++++, I get the regular screen I have been using and I can choose which skype user will be using the program by arrowing to my skype name or my wife's skype name and then logging in. However, when I open up the new skype that is now on my system, it opens up into the last person's account with everything there, contacts, etc; however, as far as I see, there is no way to change skype users. Will the new skype totally replace skype 7++++++ on our computers? It is confusing. I think I heard they are no longer updating skype 7+++++ and the scripts on Dug's page say scripts for this version are no longer valid (at least I think it says this but I may be wrong); then I installed the new scripts and so forth and so on. Help! I am totally lost! Someone awake me when all of this is sorted out! Finally! Which skype version should I be using on my windows10/64-bit computer; please give actual executable file name and url so I can download and install it.

Well I don’t think it has anything to do with Doug’s scripts mike. If a user hasn’t shared contact INFO with you well it is what it is. And like Doug also pointed out since push notifications got introduced a few years back its hard to
tell with Skype 7.x and older who’s really online or off etc.

Good evening all,
regarding notifications of on-line or not statuses being spoken:
First may I say I am not the Skype Guru that many who are on this list are but here is what I have noticed with what I'm getting back from Skype.
I'm using Jaws 18, with Windows 7, and Skype 7.xxx version, with Doug's B scripts.
I am hearing the following:
on-line
not on-line
Away
and this person hasn't shared details with you
and I also hear whether or not there are new messages for me from any given person
I don't know if this is typical for our average user but this is what I hear and so I just assumed this was just the proper function of Skype, Jaws, and Dougs good scripting.
There are so many little tweeky settings between Jaws, and Skype that I'm amazed that any of it works for any of us, with any consistency! LOL

Skype 7 showed us presence indicators but they lost reliability as phones started showing up and setting up push notifications. I think that may be why presence indication has been changing lately.

Skype UWP uses the term "Active" to denote someone that is online, as far as I can tell.
So I think we will get presence indicators back, in some form. I just don't know exactly how they will work.

If the computer's shut down, you're offline.
As long as skype's running, if you're in Invisible mode, someone can
still call you and it will ring, and you can take the call.
I never call anyone unless it shows the contact as online.

Push notifications. Was. Re: [skypeenglish] skype 8 and skype windows 10 which is the better for accessibility
Doug Lee wrote amongst other things: "To Michael, on the "Away" status being caused by people forgetting to log out of Skype: You would not only have to log out but also disable push notifications, on iOS at least. Most of us don't do that I'm sure. :)"
************* Hey Doug, I actually knew that in the past but I didn't expect I had to check it out once again after plenty of time. I think you helped me a lot though, because I discovered to be away recently instead of offline. So I opened Skype on my iPhone, I went to the notifications settings inside the app, and figured out that yeah push notifications where active. I tried to disable them, and I am looking for some cavias to verify this one. Bye! Barbuz

not, try NVDA

I consider it useful to know if someone is online, and even how long it's been since a status was known, which has occasionally been possible for us to see in Skype. When a friend of mine is going through storms, for example, this may help tell me if there is a power loss at that end.
Skype 7 showed us presence indicators but they lost reliability as phones started showing up and setting up push notifications. I think that may be why presence indication has been changing lately.
Skype 7 sometimes says "Online" beside a contact name, as I said before; but not always, and I've never seen "Offline" or another status there yet.
Skype UWP uses the term "Active" to denote someone that is online, as far as I can tell.
So I think we will get presence indicators back, in some form. I just don't know exactly how they will work.

With other words, if you want to see if somebody is online, you just need to call him/her. So no need to see this somewhere else.
As you said, if the computer is shut down and somebody calls, Skype won't ring, so the caller will find that the other person is offline.
Some people may say that it is nice to know if the other person wants to appear online or not, because he/she might be online but might not want to be called, and this is the reason that person has set Skype to invisible. In this case, that person might be called, because he/she also has the possibility of answering or not.
It is also nice if the caller also knows if the other person is on the computer but doesn't want to talk.

If the computer's shut down, you're offline. As long as skype's running, if you're in Invisible mode, someone can still call you and it will ring, and you can take the call. I never call anyone unless it shows the contact as online.

Hi. Which is better, skype 8, run in compattability mode for windows 10 or the native windows 10 app and accessibility. And also did hear new conversations in my group and jaws announced the name of the conversation or contact, announced I had 2 updates, so thats what I was talking about. Pity, not able to know if they are online or not. Thanks.

I don't consider them reliable as long as anyone can set their status to invisible. And on the other hand, it is good that it is possible to set the status to invisible.
I use Skype 7, but in the list of contacts always appear either online, offline or away.
Or you ment that these don't appear only on Skype on mobiles?

Re: skype 8 and skype windows 10 which is the better for accessibility
Exactly. But, I've noticed something with Skype 7. Sometimes, it shows a contact as online, or Away, when said contact is actually offline. It seems the older versions were more reliable on that score.

Re: skype 8 and skype windows 10 which is the better for accessibility
If you are right, it means I'm right.
:-)
With other words, if you want to see if somebody is
online, you just need to call him/her. So no need to see this somewhere
else.
As you said, if the computer is shut down and
somebody calls, Skype won't ring, so the caller will find that the other person
is offline.
Some people may say that it is nice to know if the
other person wants to appear online or not, because he/she might be online but
might not want to be called, and this is the reason that person has set Skype to
invisible. In this case, that person might be called, because he/she also has
the possibility of answering or not.
It is also nice if the caller also knows if the
other person is on the computer but doesn't want to talk.
