unfortunately, your unwillingness to update Skype is going to see you without that service when it is finally completely phased out for the older versions.

As for the younger generations, I'd like to point out that I am 43 years of age and have taken to technology as if I were born to it.

Granted, I didn't have an inbuilt CPU in my nappies, but it's your own personal attitude that determines as to how well you adapt to and adopt new technologies.

Skype included.

No, that's true, but I don't think you can really protect against Acts Of God. Some insurance companies will not even insure against such things either.

Unfortunately, those things, while they are a natural part of life, are something we can do nothing about. The DSL however, we can do something about, so long as there's a working LTE tower nearby. in which case, you can use your mobile, or dedicated Wireless router to substitute.

The only time I can remember complaining about a change to a free program was when Roger suddenly vanished with very little warning. My complaint at that time was that they gave us little warning and also gave us nowhere to go.
Microsoft has given us way plenty of warning and has also given us not one, but two places to go (Skype 8 or Skype UWP). And despite a small number of claims in this thread, we have absolutely solid and prolific proof that at
least Skype 8 works well enough with both JAWS and NVDA to be usable. It has its quirks, but so did Skype 7. So Microsoft gave us the easiest feedback system for reporting them that I have ever seen, bar none: Open, type into a

Finally, if anyone wanted to complain loudly, I think it should have been me. My Command Line Interface for Skype, Clisk (http://www.dlee.org/skype/clisk), is completely unsupported after the end of this month. That's a loss of
years of my time, at least arguably.

So why don't I yell about that one? Again, Microsoft gave plenty of warning, good explanations for why they are doing what they're doing, and even delayed Skype 7's demise partly because of one feature Clisk used, that being
the ability to redirect and record sound from Skype. I will seriously miss Clisk, but that is no reason to cry foul.

In conclusion, I'd say this Skype update should best be treated like a hurricane; and that hurricane actually has a name: Cloud. Cloud infrastructure is why this update is happening. Skype, as I said before, is changing how it
communicates. It is starting to use a cloud structure. Skype 7 was not ready for that and never will be. So Microsoft gave an evacuation order, with several months' warning - which is unusual for a weather bulletin lol. But
really, in this storm, if we cling to our islands, we truly will end up lost at sea.

my only complaint with the former is I don't get enough of it. however, putting the subject back on topic, whenever I've used Doug's scripts in the past, I have never had a complaint against them, save the fact that towards the end of my using them, keystrokes that were already incorperated in to Skype had been remapped and rerouted through JAWS to do something other than what Skype had intended for them to do.

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype

The actual problem with arrowing in Skype chat history is the reverse of what was reported here: Arrowing down stops where it should, but arrowing up can loop back around to the bottom.

The other issue with Skype 8 chat history arrowing is that arrowing down from the last message while someone is typing will move onto the typing indicator. Arrowing back up while the indicator is still there returns you to the
last sent message; but if you don't move off the typing indicator before it goes away, focus will be blown out of the chat history list entirely when the indicator vanishes.

This can be solved in two ways: Either keep focus from going to the indicator in the first place, or return focus to the last message, or maybe the just-typed one, when the indicator goes away. I'm not sure who would prefer
which.

But
really, in this storm, if we cling to our islands, we truly will end up lost at sea.

as has been stated in the official notice from ms, they will no longer be
supporting Skype 7 or classic as it's now known. this means that you will
either be forced to update, or your classic skype will begin to stop
working until it no longer works entirely.

Skype does not work with Narrator

Lino Morales <linomorales001@...>

I’m going sometime today report this to the good ole boys air girls at MS via the Feedback Hub, butt Skype 8 does not read well with Narrator. I’m using the current build of 1809 on WIN 10. Just seems that Narrator doesn’t rendthe links and buttons right etc. weither scan mode is on or off. Really their shouldn’t be any problems since Skype 8.X is like using a web page. Under NVDA snaps etc. its reading everything fine.

I can confirm that since skype 8's initial release, the file send dialog is indeed broken.

at least in windows anyway. something I intend to lodge feedback about. Furthermore, I am certain that MS will at the very least take it under advisement and hopefully will see that this is rectified in later versions of Skype.

Take care all and let's stay on topic, ok?

advantages/disadvantages of Dugs vs FS scrips

John Holcomb II

SO what are the advantages or disadvantages of one over the other?

From what I can see, I can do what I need to with  either one, which is go the convo list, and read the last message spoken in chat, and type responses and send them.

this list getting derailed

John Holcomb II

Is it me?

It seems like we’ve went way off the topics of helping with Skype, and onto other things that have nothing to do with it.

There’s been more noise then help lately on this list.

I like general tech and the topics that it got derailed too sure. But this doesn’t seem to be the place for them.

stop it please.... why microsoft don't have consideration for us? this
argoment will be valid if skype 8 doesn't have the accessibility to use
it... I don't know the new interface yet because I'm still using the old
xp... but if skype 8 is identical like facebook messenger for example,
personaly I won't any trouble to use it... don't complain.

well, congratulations on limiting yourself, because, quite frankly,
as much as I enjoy using my mac, and find it not only intuitive and a
pleasure to work with, There are some tasks that are just easier done
on windows. That's not to say they can't be done with apple, but
sometimes, I find, it's more trouble than it's worth to even attempt
it at times, so I go with what I know works.

I do nto dislike either ecosystem and will happily work within both.
I don't always agree with something either one does, but I will not
sit there and ask them to go back to code that is full of holes at
best. I'd rather be in a position to provide them feedback so that
they can improve upon what they are releasing than ask them to keep
something that quite frankly in the current environment looks quite
ugly, not only from an eyecandy perspective, but from a code
perspective as well.

they are the developers of not only the ecosystem you now find
yourselves a part of, but, they are the developers of Skype, and
they are well within their rights to deploy it as they see fit.

As has been stated time and time again, to the point I'm reminded
of a saying about dead horses, if you do not like it, uninstall it,
don't use it. if you hate ms that much, reformat your hd and go
linux or go out and buy a mac.

don't sit there and be happy to utilise one part and bitch about
another, get with the program, things are not going to go
backwards, they are going to go forwards, and we have to move with
it, or we are going to be back where we were before we even had
talking computers.

Thank you Doug,

That is my point exactly. the Cloud, is the way of the future, and the three major vendors are gearing their services towards Cloud Computing. It was always going to be this way, and I could see that even five or so years ago.

Really, there's nothing to complain about, other than it's a slight irritation, yet, like ripping a band aid off, do it quickly and the pain goes away with some alacrity.
