Re: Skype 8 language and prefix key
Yes, the jcf. The jss would contain a default value, but the jcf is where any updates to it go for a user; so the jcf setting will override the jss value for that key if found.

Re: Skype 8 language and prefix key
Quite strange, I remember when this system was introduced that this key worked as Skype command key, while in Italian we need to use alt gr in combination with that key for making a left braket. We in Italian need to change Skype command key btw... Bye! Barbuz

lol yes, I can see that. that was the very thing I was talking about. but, to be fair, you not only had to accomodate long time users, but new users that were just coming to the platform also, so I really can't fault you on that.

Microsoft has given us way plenty of warning and has also given us not one, but two places to go (Skype 8 or Skype UWP). And despite a small number of claims in this thread, we have absolutely solid and prolific proof that at least Skype 8 works well enough with both JAWS and NVDA to be usable. So why don't I yell about that one? Again, Microsoft gave plenty of warning, good explanations for why they are doing what they're doing, and even delayed Skype 7's demise partly because of one feature Clisk used, that being the ability to redirect and record sound from Skype. Cloud infrastructure is why this update is happening. Skype, as I said before, is changing how it communicates. It is starting to use a cloud structure. Skype 7 was not ready for that and never will be. So Microsoft gave an evacuation order, with several months' warning - which is unusual for a weather bulletin lol. Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
what I suspect will happen is the client will simply refuse to
login and if it does, it'll be limited functionality at best.
That might mean that your contact list may not populate, which
means in a sense, you will have no contacts to sift through.
This doesn't mean you'll lose your contacts, it means that your
particular client simply is unable to access them.
Do please bare in mind that what I'm saying is a possibility and
based on my own conjecture and thoughts rather than any
incontrovertible evidence.
Really people, we had big stinks like when win8 was first
released, XP had reached its end of life cycle and when win10 was
first introduced. all of you, are quite frankly making mountains
out of little more than mole hills.
This isn't the days when developers did as they pleased and
didn't or wouldn't listen to their end-users. times and practices
and attitudes have drastically changed since then.

Who cares. I am not willing to update Skype, and it makes things
harder for me to use it because I can't do the things like before,
and no one can hear me on their end whenever I make a phone call,
and plus, I am not like the young generations to where they have
everything on their phone, even though, I treid to use the new

No, that's true, but I don't think you can really protect against
Acts Of God. Some insurance companies will not even insure against
such things either.
Unfortunately, those things, while they are a natural part of
life, are something we can do nothing about. The DSL however, we
can do something about, so long as there's a working LTE tower
nearby. in which case, you can use your mobile, or dedicated
Wireless router to substitute.

Thank you Doug,
That is my point exactly. the Cloud, is the way of the
future, and the
three major vendors are gearing their services towards Cloud
Computing.
It was always going to be this way, and I could see that
even five or so
years ago.
Really, there's nothing to complain about, other than it's a
slight
irritation, yet, like ripping a band aid off, do it quickly
and the pain
goes away with some alacrity.

it lets
me do better things in scripting than the older JAWS

But people generally have the sense to realize that I'm
(1) not doing it

(3) cannot be

The only time I can remember complaining about a change to
a free program
was when Roger suddenly vanished with very little warning.
My complaint
at that time was that they gave us little warning and also
gave us
nowhere to go.
Microsoft has given us way plenty of warning and has also
given us not
one, but two places to go (Skype 8 or Skype UWP). And
despite a small
number of claims in this thread, we have absolutely solid
and prolific
proof that at
least Skype 8 works well enough with both JAWS and NVDA to
be usable. It
has its quirks, but so did Skype 7. So Microsoft gave us
the easiest
feedback system for reporting them that I have ever seen,
bar none: Open,
type into a
box, press Enter, done!
Finally, if anyone wanted to complain loudly, I think it
should have been
me. My Command Line Interface for Skype, Clisk
(http://www.dlee.org/skype/clisk),
is completely unsupported after the end of this month.
That's a loss
of
years of my time, at least arguably.
So why don't I yell about that one? Again, Microsoft gave
plenty of
warning, good explanations for why they are doing what
they're doing, and
even delayed Skype 7's demise partly because of one
feature Clisk used,
that being
the ability to redirect and record sound from Skype. I
will seriously
miss Clisk, but that is no reason to cry foul.
In conclusion, I'd say this Skype update should best be
treated like a
hurricane; and that hurricane actually has a name: Cloud.
Cloud
infrastructure is why this update is happening. Skype, as
I said before,
is changing how it
communicates. It is starting to use a cloud structure.
Skype 7 was not
ready for that and never will be. So Microsoft gave an
evacuation order,
with several months' warning - which is unusual for a
weather bulletin
lol. But
really, in this storm, if we cling to our islands, we
truly will end up
lost at sea.

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
my only complaint with the former is I don't get enough of it.
however, putting the subject back on topic, whenever I've used
Doug's scripts in the past, I have never had a complaint against
them, save the fact that towards the end of my using them,
keystrokes that were already incorperated in to Skype had been
remapped and rerouted through JAWS to do something other than what
Skype had intended for them to do.

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
The actual problem with arrowing in Skype chat history is the reverse of what was reported here: Arrowing down stops where it should, but arrowing up can loop back around to the bottom.
The other issue with Skype 8 chat history arrowing is that arrowing down from the last message while someone is typing will move onto the typing indicator. Arrowing back up while the indicator is still there returns you to the last sent message; but if you don't move off the typing indicator before it goes away, focus will be blown out of the chat history list entirely when the indicator vanishes.
This can be solved in two ways: Either keep focus from going to the indicator in the first place, or return focus to the last message, or maybe the just-typed one, when the indicator goes away. I'm not sure who would prefer which.
