Thank you Doug,
That is my point exactly. the Cloud, is the way of the future, and the
three major vendors are gearing their services towards Cloud Computing.
It was always going to be this way, and I could see that even five or so
years ago.
Really, there's nothing to complain about, other than it's a slight
irritation, yet, like ripping a band aid off, do it quickly and the pain
goes away with some alacrity.

Microsoft has given us way plenty of warning and has also given us not
one, but two places to go (Skype 8 or Skype UWP). And despite a small
number of claims in this thread, we have absolutely solid and prolific
proof that at
least Skype 8 works well enough with both JAWS and NVDA to be usable. It
has its quirks, but so did Skype 7. So Microsoft gave us the easiest
feedback system for reporting them that I have ever seen, bar none: Open,

Finally, if anyone wanted to complain loudly, I think it should have been

the ability to redirect and record sound from Skype. I will seriously
miss Clisk, but that is no reason to cry foul.
In conclusion, I'd say this Skype update should best be treated like a
hurricane; and that hurricane actually has a name: Cloud. Cloud
infrastructure is why this update is happening. Skype, as I said before,
is changing how it
communicates. It is starting to use a cloud structure. Skype 7 was not
ready for that and never will be. So Microsoft gave an evacuation order,

Skype does not work with Narrator
I’m going sometime today report this to the good ole boys air girls at MS via the Feedback Hub, butt Skype 8 does not read well with Narrator. I’m using the current build of 1809 on WIN 10. Just seems that Narrator doesn’t rendthe links
and buttons right etc. weither scan mode is on or off. Really their shouldn’t be any problems since Skype 8.X is like using a web page. Under NVDA snaps etc. its reading everything fine.

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
I can confirm that since skype 8's initial release, the file send dialog is indeed broken.
at least in windows anyway. something I intend to lodge feedback about. Furthermore, I am certain that MS will at the very least take it under advisement and hopefully will see that this is rectified in later versions of Skype.

advantages/disadvantages of Dugs vs FS scrips
SO what are the advantages or disadvantages of one over the other? From what I can see, I can do what I need to with either one, which is go the convo list, and read the last message spoken in chat, and type responses and send them. John

this list getting derailed
Is it me? It seems like we’ve went way off the topics of helping with Skype, and onto other things that have nothing to do with it. There’s been more noise then help lately on this list. I like general tech and the topics that it got derailed too sure. But this doesn’t seem to be the place for them. John

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
stop it please.... why microsoft don't have consideration for us? this argoment will be valid if skype 8 doesn't have the accessibility to use it... I don't know the new interface yet because I'm still using the old xp... but if skype 8 is identical like facebook messenger for example, personaly I won't any trouble to use it... don't complain.

well, congratulations on limiting yourself, because, quite frankly, as much as I enjoy using my mac, and find it not only intuitive and a pleasure to work with, There are some tasks that are just easier done on windows. That's not to say they can't be done with apple, but sometimes, I find, it's more trouble than it's worth to even attempt it at times, so I go with what I know works.
I do nto dislike either ecosystem and will happily work within both. I don't always agree with something either one does, but I will not sit there and ask them to go back to code that is full of holes at best. I'd rather be in a position to provide them feedback so that they can improve upon what they are releasing than ask them to keep something that quite frankly in the current environment looks quite ugly, not only from an eyecandy perspective, but from a code perspective as well.

they are the developers of not only the ecosystem you now find yourselves a part of, but, they are the developers of Skype, and they are well within their rights to deploy it as they see fit.
As has been stated time and time again, to the point I'm reminded of a saying about dead horses, if you do not like it, uninstall it, don't use it. if you hate ms that much, reformat your hd and go linux or go out and buy a mac.
don't sit there and be happy to utilise one part and bitch about another, get with the program, things are not going to go backwards, they are going to go forwards, and we have to move with it, or we are going to be back where we were before we even had talking computers.

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
you're still thinking in limited terms. The internet was always based on a redundancy type system.
This means, when something fell over in one location, the data was still recoverable as it was symoltaniously available in another location and so on. Cloud Computing is not, a new concept. Cloud Computing has been around as long as the internet in many respects, and most libraries in the early 80s had this kind of a system where it was a dumb terminal and the information was stored on the mainframe.
This is in many respects what we're heading back towards. a thin client, with all the relevent information stored elsewhere so as to provide the end user with increases in performance and speed etc.
So really, it'd take an EMP of epic proportions to knock out the Cloud entirely.

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
That is exactly like asking, "What happens when the Internet goes down?" The very nature of "the cloud" is redundancy, meaning, many many servers coordinating to make sure that there is not one point of weakness that can cause the whole thing to die. Of course, if the Internet goes down, Skype will be the least of our worries; and so it is with the cloud.

Really, there's nothing to complain about, other than it's a slight irritation, yet, like ripping a band aid off, do it quickly and the pain goes away with some alacrity.

I do that when it lets me do better things in scripting than the older JAWS versions allowed, or when older JAWS versions simply can't handle the newest version of the application. The only time I can remember complaining about a change to a free program was when Roger suddenly vanished with very little warning. My complaint at that time was that they gave us little warning and also gave us nowhere to go. Microsoft has given us way plenty of warning and has also given us not one, but two places to go (Skype 8 or Skype UWP). And despite a small number of claims in this thread, we have absolutely solid and prolific proof that at least Skype 8 works well enough with both JAWS and NVDA to be usable. It has its quirks, but so did Skype 7. So Microsoft gave us the easiest feedback system for reporting them that I have ever seen, bar none: Open, type into a box, press Enter, done!
Finally, if anyone wanted to complain loudly, I think it should have been me. My Command Line Interface for Skype, Clisk (http://www.dlee.org/skype/clisk), is completely unsupported after the end of this month. That's a loss of years of my time, at least arguably.
So why don't I yell about that one? Again, Microsoft gave plenty of warning, good explanations for why they are doing what they're doing, and even delayed Skype 7's demise partly because of one feature Clisk used, that being the ability to redirect and record sound from Skype. I will seriously miss Clisk, but that is no reason to cry foul.
In conclusion, I'd say this Skype update should best be treated like a hurricane; and that hurricane actually has a name: Cloud. Cloud infrastructure is why this update is happening. Skype, as I said before, is changing how it communicates. It is starting to use a cloud structure. Skype 7 was not ready for that and never will be. So Microsoft gave an evacuation order, with several months' warning - which is unusual for a weather bulletin lol. But really, in this storm, if we cling to our islands, we truly will end up lost at sea.

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
yeah and how much of that data loss could have been avoided if people employed standard backup practices?
That is not limited to blind people only. That's a human condition. people don't regularly backup, and as a result, they do an update, something goes wrong with it, and they lose their data. well, they were warned. Every time a major update has been released, the warning is always there, right for all to see, backup your data otherwise there is the possibility you'll lose it. if you don't take that to heart, then blind or not, it's your own fault if you lose it.
but again, in terms of skype, and back to my original point, MS can, have and will deploy updates as they like, and as we signed up for their service, we accepted that to be the case. by installing it, we gave our tacit approval fore them to update as they like.
Please, this is a list to help people run Skype, not bemoan the fact it's changing far beyond anything you're comfortable with.
Let go of this idea of deprecated software being better, because it really isn't. and learn to work with what we have. learn also to give constructive criticism as opposed to I want this back, or, I hate this vendor or, pooh pooh to that organisation because they don't do things how "I" want them.

well, congratulations on limiting yourself, because, quite frankly, as much as I enjoy using my mac, and find it not only intuitive and a pleasure to work with, There are some tasks that are just easier done on windows. That's not to say they can't be done with apple, but sometimes, I find, it's more trouble than it's worth to even attempt it at times, so I go with what I know works.
I do nto dislike either ecosystem and will happily work within both. I'd rather be in a position to provide them feedback so that they can improve upon what they are releasing than ask them to keep something that quite frankly in the current environment looks quite ugly, not only from an eyecandy perspective, but from a code perspective as well.

Re: refusal of ypdating to a new version of Skype
I might also add, that apple and google also are similar in how they make you update, be it hardware or software.
the only way you're going to get any joy and keep what you want around for years is with GNU/Linus, and what's that cost? 50 cents to burn it to a DVD dump it in your drive, boot up, run the live installer, reformat the drive, and bingo a fully customiseable operating system that you can make look, feel and work how you want and keep it that way. oh, and with even more limitations than apple or google or ms. either way, there's good and bad points for all of them.

as has been stated in the official notice from ms, they will no longer be supporting Skype 7 or classic as it's now known. this means that you will either be forced to update, or your classic skype will begin to stop working until it no longer works entirely.

Hi all,
What if you refused to update to a new version of Skype? I like the Skype Classic because it is easier for me to navigate on Skype Classic than Skype 8.30, and I could never get anyone to hear me on Skype 8.30 any longer, and I tried everything and no go with Skype 8.30
Thanks,
Josephine
