Ah, so need to use the tool bar or menu? I’ll have to try this the next time on skype for windows 10, if that is even skype 8. It’s all confusing. Right now I just leave it running and hpe I’m not annoyed by all the notifications I get. Lol! I’ll keep this tip burned on to my mental desktop

An other important issue is that Skype 8 does not give us information who went offline and who came on line!

In my humble opinion it is the most important thing in accessibility point of view much more important than multiple chat windows!

It's great if the hotkeys are working fine, but I still can't understand why you consider it better. If the previous version of Skype offers the possibility of multiple chat windows but you can't use them for whatever reasons, nobody forces you to use multiple chat windows, so from your perspective it shouldn't matter.

On the other hand, if other users want to use multiple chat windows, this is possible in Skype Classic, but not possible in Skype 8 from what I understood, so the new version has a big disadvantage for them.

Actually I’m also using the windows versio of skype, the updated one  that came wiht my machien and navigating it with out the scrits is way way easy. It acts just like skype on the mac where you no longer have the chats in separate windows. I’v eactually alwasy wanted that to be gone as I cannot multi task. Go to anchor.fm/ke7zum and  check out my demo on the new skype for windows   10 I might even put it up on my mix cloud as well. I got the hang of it after maybe about 5 minutes. It is not that bad really. And I’m using no addons for nvda as far as I know to access the new features. The keyboard shortcuts even work fine.

If you consider Mac as beeing the best OS, then this means that it is the best OS for you, not for everybody. Other people may be forced to use another operating system because there are some applications they need to use which don't exist for Mac, or are not accessible etc.

Re: doug and all I accidentally deleted the email

Stephen Troy

Hi randy

I think this is what you are looking for.

Microsoft's announcement of the September 1 discontinuation of Skype 7 (Classic) has brought us quite a bit of traffic on this list. Here are some hopefully helpful bits of info:

Will Skype 7 (Classic) work after September 1 if you download it now? Microsoft says no. They are not just saying they're no longer going to support it; they're saying it will not work after that date. Time will tell, but that's the official word.

Which Skype should we use then? I now say Skype 8, because Microsoft has begun offering it to everyone, even Windows 10 users. Skype UWP for Windows 10 is still supported though.

Did I once say I thought Skype 8 would soon die? Possibly; I predicted Skype UWP would become the preferred Skype version. As of now though, I believe Skype 8 will become the preferred version. Again, time will tell.

Are there JAWS scripts for Skype 8? Yes, at http://www.dlee.org/skype/electron/ - and I just updated them before sending this email. See the site I just gave for details on what changed.

Is there an NVDA add-on for Skype 8? Yes, at http://www.dlee.org/skype/electron/skype.nvda-addon

Is there a list of keyboard shortcuts for Skype 8? Yes, at https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12025/what-are-hotkeys-and-how-do-i-use-them-in-skype

Will Clisk work with Skype 8? No. The API required by Clisk is no longer supported at all in Skype 8 or Skype UWP. (For those who don't know, Clisk, the Command Line Interface for Skype, is a Python-based application I've maintained for many years.) This end-of-life for that API is no surprise and was in fact delayed for several years beyond initial expectations.

I wish everyone well in this transition, and I hope my scripting and add-on work is helpful.

Re: Microsoft is Killing Skype Classic on September 1-

Doug Lee

Short answer: Alt+1 for conversation list, and Tab and Shift+Tab for chat input and history, for now. In JAWS, [ e and [ h jump to history and edit box, respectively, if you use my scripts.

Longer answer for NVDA users:

I initially planned to include keystrokes for jumping to edit box and history in my Skype 8 add-on, but I did not get around in time to learning a good way to set up layered keys, like [ e; and I did not want to risk colliding
with commands in Skype 8 itself. My natural keystroke for jumping to the edit box would probably have been Ctrl+E. It's a good thing I didn't do that; Ctrl+E is now the native Skype 8 command for hanging up a call.

So there's no shortcuts for NVDA users yet for jumping around in a chat window; but perhaps Microsoft will implement these even before I can. I observe, in defense of this idea, that Microsoft Teams does include at least a
keyboard shortcut for jumping to the input box.

Hi there,

Thanks for all the answers. Concerning Skype electron, Can I ask, how can we

Clarification: All Skype versions allow multiple simultaneous chats, but
only Skype Classic allows chats to appear in separate windows. In Skype
classic's default view and in all other Skype clients for Windows, you
switch among chats by choosing different conversations in the conversation
list. I was doing that in Skype Classic for years already and have not used
separate windows in a very long time, so admittedly I'm quite used to this.

Clarification: All Skype versions allow multiple simultaneous chats, but
only Skype Classic allows chats to appear in separate windows. In Skype
classic's default view and in all other Skype clients for Windows, you
switch among chats by choosing different conversations in the conversation
list. I was doing that in Skype Classic for years already and have not used
separate windows in a very long time, so admittedly I'm quite used to this.

anyway, and you do't want too many resources to be taken up, so take

I use skype 8 every day for my jobs and don't mind that it is only 1

Re: Microsoft is Killing Skype Classic on September 1-

Clarification: All Skype versions allow multiple simultaneous chats, but only Skype Classic allows chats to appear in separate windows. In Skype classic's default view and in all other Skype clients for Windows, you switch
among chats by choosing different conversations in the conversation list. I was doing that in Skype Classic for years already and have not used separate windows in a very long time, so admittedly I'm quite used to this.

It works and works well. You only chat with one person at once
anyway, and you do't want too many resources to be taken up, so take
it, or uninstall skype and never use it.

I use skype 8 every day for my jobs and don't mind that it is only 1
chat, it always has ben one chat and always will be one chat.

OK, but then how it can be considered OK, or even acceptable?
We might accept this limitation and not start chatting with more than
one person concomitently, but other people might start chatting us.
What can we do in that case? Can we distinguish somehow the source of
chat messages? Can we decide to whom we want to type to if this thing
happends?

The very bad policy of forcing us to use another worse application
doesn't make me have the courage of trying Skype 8, see if I like it,
and if not, return to Skype 7 at least for the next one month and a
half, because I'm afraid that this might be impossible and I might need
to start using the worse solution right now.

The matter of fact is that there is no possibility of more than one
chat at the same time in Skype 8 therefore we cannot do anything!
I'm very sorry to let you know that I was forced to update Skype 8.25!

I understood that Skype 8 doesn't offer the possibility of opening
separate
windows for separate chats. How can we solve this problem?

I believe it is both. I personally am loving skype 8. d I can do so so
much
with it that I could not do wiht skype 7. The interface is very smooth
and
easy to use.

And What about those who don’t have access to the feedback hub because they don’t yet have win 10? How do they make their feelings heard?

Well Joseph I only have 1 suggestion and this goes for all of you. If you are running WIN 10 by all means use the Feedback Hub. In stead of bitching and complaining about MS this and MS that make your voice heard. Bill Gates isn’t running the show anymore in Redmon. It’s a new Microsoft.
