Re: Quitting Skype 8
Ah, so need to use the tool bar or menu? I’ll have to try this the next time on skype for windows 10, if that is even skype 8. It’s all confusing. Right now I just leave it running and hpe I’m not annoyed by all the notifications I get. Lol! I’ll keep this tip burned on to my mental desktop

Ctrl+Q quits Skype 8 instantly. The systray menu that pops up does not take focus and does not indicate to screen readers which item is selected, according to my tests.

Hello all,

An other important issue is that Skype 8 does not give us information who went offline and who came on line! In my humble opinion it is the most important thing in accessibility point of view much more important than multiple chat windows! With regards from Inamuddin with the Skype ID: Charlsdarwin1

It's great if the hotkeys are working fine, but I still can't understand why you consider it better. If the previous version of Skype offers the possibility of multiple chat windows but you can't use them for whatever reasons, nobody forces you to use multiple chat windows, so from your perspective it shouldn't matter. On the other hand, if other users want to use multiple chat windows, this is possible in Skype Classic, but not possible in Skype 8 from what I understood, so the new version has a big disadvantage for them.

Re: doug and all I accidentally deleted the email
Stephen Troy
Hi randy
I think this is what you are looking for.
Microsoft's announcement of the September 1 discontinuation of Skype 7 (Classic) has brought us quite a bit of traffic on this list. Here are some hopefully helpful bits of info:
Will Skype 7 (Classic) work after September 1 if you download it now? Microsoft says no. They are not just saying they're no longer going to support it; they're saying it will not work after that date. Time will tell, but that's the official word.
Which Skype should we use then? I now say Skype 8, because Microsoft has begun offering it to everyone, even Windows 10 users. Skype UWP for Windows 10 is still supported though.
Did I once say I thought Skype 8 would soon die? Possibly; I predicted Skype UWP would become the preferred Skype version. As of now though, I believe Skype 8 will become the preferred version. Again, time will tell.
Are there JAWS scripts for Skype 8? Yes, at http://www.dlee.org/skype/electron/ - and I just updated them before sending this email. See the site I just gave for details on what changed.
Is there an NVDA add-on for Skype 8? Yes, at http://www.dlee.org/skype/electron/skype.nvda-addon
Is there a list of keyboard shortcuts for Skype 8? Yes, at https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12025/what-are-hotkeys-and-how-do-i-use-them-in-skype
Will Clisk work with Skype 8? No. The API required by Clisk is no longer supported at all in Skype 8 or Skype UWP. (For those who don't know, Clisk, the Command Line Interface for Skype, is a Python-based application I've maintained for many years.) This end-of-life for that API is no surprise and was in fact delayed for several years beyond initial expectations.
I wish everyone well in this transition, and I hope my scripting and add-on work is helpful.

Re: Microsoft is Killing Skype Classic on September 1-
Doug Lee
Short answer: Alt+1 for conversation list, and Tab and Shift+Tab for chat input and history, for now. In JAWS, [ e and [ h jump to history and edit box, respectively, if you use my scripts.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Longer answer for NVDA users: I initially planned to include keystrokes for jumping to edit box and history in my Skype 8 add-on, but I did not get around in time to learning a good way to set up layered keys, like [ e; and I did not want to risk colliding with commands in Skype 8 itself. My natural keystroke for jumping to the edit box would probably have been Ctrl+E. It's a good thing I didn't do that; Ctrl+E is now the native Skype 8 command for hanging up a call. So there's no shortcuts for NVDA users yet for jumping around in a chat window; but perhaps Microsoft will implement these even before I can. I observe, in defense of this idea, that Microsoft Teams does include at least a keyboard shortcut for jumping to the input box.

And What about those who don’t have access to the feedback hub because they don’t yet have win 10? How do they make their feelings heard? Mike

Well Joseph I only have 1 suggestion and this goes for all of you. If you are running WIN 10 by all means use the Feedback Hub. In stead of bitching and complaining about MS this and MS that make your voice heard. Bill Gates isn’t running the show anymore in Redmon. It’s a new Microsoft.

People I understand how you and dug feel, but waiting for microsoft to make skype accessible, is like waiting for a snow to fall.
