Well, we'll see. I eat my words up, but I still don't care for it.

Oh btw apple's agreement is now 76 pages in length. I've read all of it. and it reads as it should, as I was taught to write a contract.

Improving the Microsoft Services Agreement and Privacy Statement for consumers

What do Windows, Skype, Xbox Live and OneDrive have in common? One simpler service agreement and privacy statement from Microsoft.
In a world of more personalized computing, customers need meaningful transparency and privacy protections. And those aren?t possible unless we get the basics right. For consumer services, that starts with clear terms and policies that both respect individual privacy and don?t require a law degree to read.
In an effort to further simplify the terms and policies for our customers, we?re updating the Microsoft Services Agreement and the Microsoft Privacy Statement effective Aug. 1 to reflect our latest services in a more streamlined format. Customers will begin receiving notice of these changes today.
The Microsoft Services Agreement will now expand to cover most of Microsoft?s consumer services, including Bing, Cortana, Microsoft account, OneDrive, Outlook.com <http://outlook.com/>;, Skype and Xbox Live. A full list of products covered by this update to our terms of use can be found here. The Privacy Statement is also being refreshed and restructured, reducing redundancies and providing a singular, straightforward resource for understanding Microsoft?s commitments for protecting individual privacy with these services, and will also cover new technologies like the forthcoming Windows 10.
We?ve approached the updated agreement and privacy statement guided by a few key principles:
1. Simplicity: These changes bring together a number of previously separate ? and often repetitive ? documents to make it easier for customers to find and understand the information. Instead of agreeing to separate terms and statements for each service, customers who use more than one Microsoft service will be able to accept once for multiple services and review one privacy statement.
2. Transparency: Although we?ve simplified and consolidated the terms and policies, we didn?t want to over-simplify, either. We want to give consumers meaningful information about how we collect and use personal data. Thus, the privacy statement still provides the service-level details our customers need in order to understand the privacy implications of the services they use.
3. Privacy: These statements reiterate what we?ve said in the past: We don?t use customer communications to serve targeted ads to customers and we are committed to putting customers in control of their information.
It is important to note that these changes do not represent a change in Microsoft?s approach to customer privacy. We are simplifying the services agreement and privacy statement because we believe that real transparency starts with straightforward terms and policies that people can clearly understand. As our services evolve, we recognize we must continue earning your trust. These changes aim to help do just that.

Important ? new Microsoft Services Agreement & Privacy Statement for Skype
When Microsoft acquired Skype in 2011, we brought together our communication technologies to help you stay closer to friends, family and colleagues. And, if you're like millions of other people who use a number of Microsoft's services (for example, Outlook.com <http://outlook.com/>; for email, Bing, Xbox, Office 365, etc.) we're making life a little easier for everyone. How? Well, most of Microsoft's consumer services are being brought together under a single Microsoft Services Agreement and a consolidated Microsoft Privacy Statement.

We'll be moving from Skype's current Terms of Use and Privacy Policy to the new Microsoft Services Agreement and the Microsoft Privacy Statement on August 1, 2015.

Do you need to do anything? These are important documents and we encourage you to read them by navigating to the links at the bottom of this email. By continuing to use Skype after August 1, 2015, you agree to these updated terms. Should you disagree, simply discontinue using Skype or cancel your subscription before then. If you are a parent or guardian, you are responsible for your child's or teenager's use of Skype, including purchases.

Here are the highlights:

Simplicity
Many of our customers use more than one Microsoft service, and have agreed to a number of terms and privacy policies. To make it easier to use multiple services, we've brought together these documents into a single services agreement and a consolidated privacy statement that cover most of our consumer services.

Privacy
Our longstanding commitment to privacy has not changed. We remain dedicated to protecting your data, being clear about how we use it, and putting you in control. For example, we do not use the contents of your email, chat, video calls, documents, photos, or voice messages to target advertising to you. And as you'll see when you read the privacy statement, we offer a range of tools that enable you to make decisions about what data we collect. Additionally, we have launched a new privacy dashboard <http://emails.skype.com/r/c/r?2.1.3OM.2w%2a.1Q9uPO.SbG6Sa..N.HxoQ.S4m.bW89MQ%5f%5fCXRKFOT0>; that makes it easier for you to make choices about how we use your data.

Transparency
We're using straightforward language so our terms of use and privacy statement are easier to understand. In addition, we've put key privacy information all in one place, so you no longer have to jump between several documents to understand the big picture. While this consolidation eliminates redundancies and simplifies the structure of the information, we continue to provide service-specific details to allow you to make informed choices about how you use our services. We've also added some additional privacy information about new features and functionality we'll soon roll out, like those you'll see on Windows 10.

What do Windows, Skype, Xbox Live and OneDrive have in common? One simpler
service agreement and privacy statement from Microsoft.

In a world of more personalized computing, customers need meaningful
transparency and privacy protections. And those aren?t possible unless we
get the basics right. For consumer services, that starts with clear terms
and policies that both respect individual privacy and don?t require a law
degree to read.

In an effort to further simplify the terms and policies for our customers,
we?re updating the Microsoft Services Agreement and the Microsoft Privacy
Statement effective Aug. 1 to reflect our latest services in a more
streamlined format. Customers will begin receiving notice of these changes
today.

The Microsoft Services Agreement will now expand to cover most of
Microsoft?s consumer services, including Bing, Cortana, Microsoft account,
OneDrive, Outlook.com, Skype and Xbox Live. A full list of products covered
by this update to our terms of use can be found here. The Privacy Statement
is also being refreshed and restructured, reducing redundancies and
providing a singular, straightforward resource for understanding Microsoft?s
commitments for protecting individual privacy with these services, and will
also cover new technologies like the forthcoming Windows 10.

We?ve approached the updated agreement and privacy statement guided by a few
key principles:

1. Simplicity: These changes bring together a number of previously separate
? and often repetitive ? documents to make it easier for customers to find
and understand the information. Instead of agreeing to separate terms and
statements for each service, customers who use more than one Microsoft
service will be able to accept once for multiple services and review one
privacy statement.

2. Transparency: Although we?ve simplified and consolidated the terms and
policies, we didn?t want to over-simplify, either. We want to give consumers
meaningful information about how we collect and use personal data. Thus, the
privacy statement still provides the service-level details our customers
need in order to understand the privacy implications of the services they
use.

3. Privacy: These statements reiterate what we?ve said in the past: We don?t
use customer communications to serve targeted ads to customers and we are
committed to putting customers in control of their information.

It is important to note that these changes do not represent a change in
Microsoft?s approach to customer privacy. We are simplifying the services
agreement and privacy statement because we believe that real transparency
starts with straightforward terms and policies that people can clearly
understand. As our services evolve, we recognize we must continue earning
your trust. These changes aim to help do just that.

Important ? new Microsoft Services Agreement & Privacy Statement for Skype

When Microsoft acquired Skype in 2011, we brought together our communication
technologies to help you stay closer to friends, family and colleagues. And,
if you're like millions of other people who use a number of Microsoft's
services (for example, <http://outlook.com/>; Outlook.com for email, Bing,
Xbox, Office 365, etc.) we're making life a little easier for everyone. How?
Well, most of Microsoft's consumer services are being brought together under
a single Microsoft Services Agreement and a consolidated Microsoft Privacy
Statement.

We'll be moving from Skype's current Terms of Use and Privacy Policy to the
new Microsoft Services Agreement and the Microsoft Privacy Statement on
August 1, 2015.

Do you need to do anything? These are important documents and we encourage
you to read them by navigating to the links at the bottom of this email. By
continuing to use Skype after August 1, 2015, you agree to these updated
terms. Should you disagree, simply discontinue using Skype or cancel your
subscription before then. If you are a parent or guardian, you are
responsible for your child's or teenager's use of Skype, including

Simplicity
Many of our customers use more than one Microsoft service, and have agreed

Privacy
Our longstanding commitment to privacy has not changed. We remain dedicated
to protecting your data, being clear about how we use it, and putting you in
control. For example, we do not use the contents of your email, chat, video
calls, documents, photos, or voice messages to target advertising to you.
And as you'll see when you read the privacy statement, we offer a range of
tools that enable you to make decisions about what data we collect.
Additionally, we have launched a

choices about how we use your data.

Transparency
We're using straightforward language so our terms of use and privacy
statement are easier to understand. In addition, we've put key privacy
information all in one place, so you no longer have to jump between several
documents to understand the big picture. While this consolidation eliminates
redundancies and simplifies the structure of the information, we continue to
provide service-specific details to allow you to make informed choices about
how you use our services. We've also added some additional privacy

those you'll see on Windows 10.

Important – new Microsoft Services Agreement & Privacy Statement for Skype

skypeenglish at lists.tffppodcast.com (Jeremy via Skypeenglish)...

I think its legit since this same message was sent to my Outlook.com email address.

I was also asked to upgrade my Skype installation.

The following is funny; It?s a warning from Microsoft Security Essentials about their own application Skype.

It does not look like a lawyer wrote it. it actually looks to me fake. it's too much in the second person. Something sounds fishy, plus I did not see this in the garage blogs or any of the skype blogs I'm subscribed to.

Take care to all.

Important ? new Microsoft Services Agreement & Privacy Statement for Skype

<http://img.delivery.net/cm50content/20381/40895/icon1.gif>;
Simplicity
Many of our customers use more than one Microsoft service, and have agreed to a number of terms and privacy policies. To make it easier to use multiple services, we've brought together these documents into a single services agreement and a consolidated privacy statement that cover most of our consumer services.
<http://img.delivery.net/cm50content/20381/40895/icon2.gif>;
<http://img.delivery.net/cm50content/20381/40895/icon3.gif>;

Important ??? new Microsoft Services Agreement & Privacy Statement for Skype

skypeenglish at lists.tffppodcast.com (Doug Lee via Skypeenglish)...

The email explains the less legalistic writing style. The page is
hosted on a skype.com subdomain, and the move makes sense to me for
Microsoft to make.

That's one long agreement though, might even beat the Apple agreement
for size, not sure...

Additionally, we have launched a new privacy dashboard that makes it easier for you to make choices about how we use your data.

We've also added some additional privacy information about new features and functionality we'll soon roll out, like those you'll see on Windows 10.

hey satauna!
well, from what I have seen, you can actually set the quality in it. I have
it set to 128KBPS, mono, and it gives good resaults.

Larry, I haven't had any problems with it and I use it at least once or
twice a week. It's a free product so the quality is crap, in my view, but
it does the job. If I was going to rebroadcast any of my recordings as
interviews or something, I'd find another application, but you should be ok
to upgrade.

Hi all,
Just got a prompt to upgrade. I had problems with 4.06 and no matter what I
tried, skype did not record using that version.
Even tried minimizing skype.
Before I actually run this executable file, I wonder iff anyone has had
issues with 4.11?
Larry

help with a friends XP computer and skype

skypeenglish at lists.tffppodcast.com (Mike DeZinno via Skypeenglish)...

Hello to all,
Not that I consider myself a computer god at the level of some who
contribute to this forum but...
I would doubt that XP with Jaws 14 would be advanced enough to work with
the most recent upgrades and versions of Skype and here are my thoughts why
not:

First an foremost even jaws starting with version 16 stopped supporting XP,
which means nothing more will be developed or fixed at Freedom Scientific's
end regarding XP for any version of Jaws.

Secondly I'm finding more and more web sites just aren't willing to support
older versions of Internet Explorer and the latest greatest version that
XP had just isn't cutting it any more for cutting edge websites.

Therefore, it is my opinion that Skype is one of those web services that
just isn't willing to stay retro to help out a few thousand blind people
when they are competing in a web space for their share of subscribers
against other companies that are trying to market to tens of millions of
users who don't come to them with our baggage.

I feel for our community because of the way we rely upon more tech to do
simple things than the sighted consumer does, and each level of tech we
need adds another layer of complexity to the simplicity of the basic tasks
we are trying to independently perform.

That's one of the reasons I'm so grateful to Doug lee for the scripts he
has written for us to get Skype to work for most of us.

Since we weren't given any info on the person's equipment running XP I
don't know if this suggestion could help but if they have enough resources
with their current machine to maybe upgrade to at least Windows 7 it might
buy them a little more time before having to put out a lot of cash up
grading their machine or their level of Jaws.

I hope this has been helpful.
Mike, Florence SC

Hi,
I have a friend running JAWS 14 with an XP computer.
He tried to upgrade to skype 7.4 and we tried today to get him to skype
7.5.
Each time we tried it, we got a mesage saying that skype had
encountered a problem and needed to close.
We got rid of all previous versions of the program on his XP computer
or at least we think we did. We also deleted his skype folders.
Does the current version of skype work with an xp computer?
Any good suggestions would be welcome.
thanks!
