I understand that the Skype that launches on Windows startup will be the last one you ran yourself; so try running Desktop Skype and then

Tom, do not confuse between JAWS 18 which is the stable one, and 2018 public beta. If you're using the second one, make sure you're trying to install revision 981 or above, otherwise it won't work properly. If you hear revision 975 or above, but you're with the public beta of JAWS 2018, download the installer again which will grab revision 983. Bye! Barbuz

Hi! Thanks to everyone who has answered my questions about Skype preview, Skype for Windows 10, and Skype Desktop. It will be great for JAWS users if scripts are written for the new Skype Preview. But I should point out that not everyone on this list uses JAWS: I use NVDA, and I’m sure there are people on this list who use other screenreaders. I know nothing about the accessibility of Skype Preview, but, if that is going to be come the standard version of Skype in the future, here’s hoping that it will be accessible to all screenreader users one day, even if it isn’t so far. Bye for now! From Clare

Dear, the matter of fact is that now a days there are two Skype for desktop available one is called Skype classic and the other one is Skype preview for desktop. Both are very different from each other. In my humble opinion we must learn the new one because appearing Skype preview for desktop means that today or tomorrow Microsoft will quit Classic Skype for desktop and will replace from Skype preview. I therefore feel urgency of Jaws script for Skype preview so we can start learning and using it! I hope that after reading my email, your confusion will end! Hi! I'm a bit confused after reading this thread, and maybe I've misunderstood it, so I have comments to make and a question to ask. I thought the only Skype which works in Windows 7 was Skype desktop. This is the first time I've heard that Skype for Windows 10 might also work on Windows 7. Or have I totally misunderstood what was said? Will Skype Desktop disappear when support for Windows 7 ends, or before that? I still use Skype Desktop, and I plan to continue to do so as long as this Windows 7 computer lasts. I might have to change when I get a Windows 10 PC, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Talking of which, do I understand right that you can't use Skype Desktop on Windows 10? Or does the Windows 10 Skype simply become the default on that Windows version? Thanks in advance for anyone who can clear up this confusion. I hope to keep Skype Desktop going here as long as I can, maybe on Windows 10 if that's possible, but it'll be useful to know how things stand as far as the continued existence of Skype Desktop goes. Bye for now, and happy skyping, whichever version you use! From Clare

No strong evidence, but I'm afraid that Microsoft won't maintain 2 types of Skype if the new Skype is working under Windows 7 already. Those who need it just for personal chat might not find this a very big issue, but those that need it for work and need performance from it might suffer.

Yeah, i was going to mention zoom, as an alternative for the stuff your doing Sarah. I’ve never actually been on a meeting on it, but just taking a brief quick look at it, the interface seems quite accessible. Skype for Windows 10 will now also run on Windows 7. This surprised me and concerns me a bit since I thought Skype Desktop would continue to work until Windows 7 support ends. Now I'm not sure what the future holds for these two Skypes.
Currently though, Skype Desktop does still run on Windows 10. You have to download it just like for Windows 7, whereas Skype for Windows 10 comes bundled with Windows 10 itself now.
I hope this clears up your questions.
