Hi all.

I'm using Skype 7.4 now, on Windows 7 with the new scripts.
It's working fine.
And, that's the problem.  Microsoft can't seem to leave well enough alone.
it's working, and they still seem to want to fix it; vary annoying.

Hi Sarah, I guess like you we are also. I had a client that downloaded the
windows version, and we ended up downloading the desktop version from the
web site.

No strong evidence, but I'm afraid that Microsoft won't maintain 2 types of Skype if the new Skype is working under Windows 7 already.
Those who need it just for personal chat might not find this a very big issue, but those that need it for work and need performance from it might suffer.

That's true. I thought the end of life for 2007 was 2019 not 2020. They upped it by one year? After end of life for windows 10 what will happen? I heard microsoft are not building anymore windows versions. I guess it's not time to worry as of yet though.

If you mean Skype Desktop version 7.40, I'm running it without problems.

If you mean he new Skype for Windows 10, I did not script that; but you can still use Skype Desktop, which I did script.

Is this using the deskt op app fromthe app store or is this uusing the skype that just came with windows 10? I am a part of the windows 10 insider program but I have yet to try skype on it. Not good as I have to use skype for my job and such lol!

Doug, can you confirm that this scripts update is only to fix the installer issues? My friends just made the zip package for rev 981 yesterday (because in Italy we only have this one and not the installer), and so if there are no other changes in the scripts code I think we can jump this revision, right?

For anyone with a 32-bit Windows system for whom my updated Skype script
installer could not find JAWS: Grab today's update from
http://www.dlee.org/skype/ and try again. I upgraded the installer build
system, NSIS; and the function of one of the commands in the code changed
and required me to adapt the code a bit for 32-bit Windows computers.

I have just tried down loading the scripts for the Jaws 2018, but it will
not download as windows 10 says that the file is badd for my system.

Yes, Lino is right. Positive feedback returns positive feedback, but of the same type.
If we nicely tell MS that the new application is great, but not for the blind, they will tell us nicely, with the same grace, some positive and nice words, but finally they will still follow their interests.
Even we would bring all honey in the world and flood Redmond, they wouldn't agree to make an operating system with an interface as accessible as Windows 2000, which was even more accessible than Windows XP.

I think that we need to be polite, but let them know that the newSkype is horrible for the blind.

And BTW, regarding the best way of attracting the flies at Microsoft, maybe a better way would be to do it in the good cop/bad cop way, so... go ahead and write them some nice words also. For writing very nice words, and not just some technical terms, require native knowledge of English, which I don't have. :-)

Result: well...I don't know if the guy got his butt chewed out or nowt; what I do know is those incidents of the program becoming over-modulated and stuff going on that shouldn't have been didn't happen anymore!  Maybe a coincidence; maybe not; my point is...if enough people get in touch with Microsoft, (but do it in a respectful manner) it might accomplish the desired result!

Well, I contacted Microsoft's tech support for OneDrive a few weeks
ago, and
they answered and were very nice.
OneDrive is paid and Skype is not, but the cost for OneDrive is pretty
cheap, so I don't think that cost made them be so nice. :-)

You may be right that they don't care and that they won't answer, but it
doesn't matter if they answer or not. We don't need their answer. We
need to
make them care, and if more blind people will start complaining, they
might
be thinking that this is a problem and they might start caring.

remain  in  a  call  window when in a voice conversation, because when
someone  else  calls  you - boom, you are out of that window where the
hang up button is.
So  is it accessible? Yes, mostly. but is it usable? No, should I say,
because  when  my  boss  would  send  me a message, I won't be able to
quickly  find  his message, because... well, because it's one huge web
page.  Most  like  Slack,  if  you  get  what I mean. And yes, it does
consume memory like a monster, both on mobile and on desktop.
Microsoft  says  our  good  old  Skype  is about to die since this new
beast-thing  can be installed on Windows lower than ten (I did install

Actually Jerry has a point. I've contcted them about skype for years now and they don't respond, not via email, forum, their blog or twitter, yet they will respond and help us with our xboxes and windows machines. But yeah let's all try and contct them anyway and see what happens. The preview for mac really sucks major and I will be out of a job if they don't fix it soon ish..
